Big Trouble In LIttle China
Monday Apr 27, 2015
Monday Apr 27, 2015
There are some movies that you can use as a barometer to tell if someone is on the same page as you when it comes to overall film fandom. These films are, very rarely, the hits and the award winners. More often than not they are the ones that landed somewhere on the fringes, unjustly so in most cases. But as life, as a general rule, is unfair these things occur.
However, occasionally one of these movies will remove itself from the margins and claim its rightful place in the canon, nay... the PANTHEON of classic cinema. No film has done so more completely than John Carpenter's 1985 MASTERPIECE Big Trouble in Little China.
A legendary director and his most legendary collaborator team up to give you one of the greatest cinematic experiences of your lifetime and... we have some beers and ramble on in mutual adoration of it.
So, enjoy our drunken ramblings on one of the most perfect pieces of cinema ever produced by man.

Spike Lee: The Man Without Fear
Monday Apr 20, 2015
Monday Apr 20, 2015
The word "fearless' gets bandied about quite a bit in the world of art. We love to pat people on the back for their "courage" when they make some privileged point about how shallow their privileged upbringing was, or when they do something that involves sex. Mostly when they do something that involves sex. Almost always when it has to do with sex.
But what about a filmmaker who genuinely seems to have no fear. A filmmaker who made a career out of forcing uncomfortable questions on people who don't want to admit that there are questions to be asked. A filmmaker who is more interested in asking questions than giving answers is a rare thing.
Spike Lee, like him or not, is that filmmaker. He has shown not only a complete lack of fear, but a complete lack of the CONCEPT of fear. He has held us by the throat and slammed us in the face with more uncomfortable questions than many people face in a lifetime, and refused to give us answers, preferring that we leave asking more and more questions than we had at the beginning.
So join us, if you will, in our look at one of the most divisive and fearless filmmakers this country has ever produced.

Jim has been espousing his love for these films quite a bit as of late, and Campbell has seen almost half of them. We could think of no better reason to take our first look at the world of The Fast and the Furious.
