20 For 20: 20 Films That Turn 20 in 2015
Monday Jan 26, 2015
Monday Jan 26, 2015
1995... I must say it was a very good year. And a very bad year.
20 years ago some of the best and worst films ever were released (which, if you think about it, is true of every year) but, because 20 is a nice, round number... let's go with that.
From the sublime to the ridiculous, we take a look at some of the films that defined the nineties.
Remember, you can be a part of the show any time you wild like. How's that? All you have to do is call or e-mail us. If you live in the US, or any place that makes calling the US easy, just dial 512-666-RANT and leave us a voicemail. We will read the Google Voice transcript and play your message. It's both funny AND informative.
If you live outside the US you can call us on Skype at The_Film_Thugs. You can leave a message, or someone might actually answer.
E-mail us at thefilmthugs@gmail.com and we will read/play whatever you send us, or you can e-mail thugquestions@gmail.com to be part of an upcoming "Ask the Film Thugs" show, where we answer questions on any subject without having heard them first.
Also, we are on twitter @thefilmthugs and on Facebook and Vine.
You can also click on one of our sponsor links below and THEY will pay us. That's right. You won't have to pay a PENNY extra, and Amazon/Onnit/Teefury will give us a little taste.
Thanks for listening, and until next week...

The Unsinkable John Travolta
Monday Jan 19, 2015
Monday Jan 19, 2015
There really isn't a better way to describe John Travolta than "unsinkable." He has run the gamut of Hollywood more than once, but always seems to end up on top. Yes, he makes some bad choices, but when you are regularly putting out three movies a year... that is bound to happen.
By all accounts he is a nice guy who has a charm and charisma that makes him easy to like.
This week we discuss Johnny T. The good, the bad, the baffling, and the ugly.

What does it mean to "be a man?"
Monday Jan 12, 2015
Monday Jan 12, 2015
Masculinity is a difficult concept to nail down. Sadly, because we, as people, have come to define everything in terms of absolutes and leave no room for any sort of nuance or shading "masculinity" has become sort of a bad word. Traditional gender roles and discrimination has turned any classic idea of "masculinity" into a bad word, a way of minimizing or dismissing the efforts of women and dismissing femininity.
This week we discuss why this is wrong. We also discuss why all the sexist bullshit that came before was wrong. In short... we try and figure out what it really means to be a man and how that has been represented in movies up to this point.
